Ebony Miller entered the shelter in May 2008, after leaving an abusive relationship.  "After being here for just a few days, I found warmth and compassion," she said, noting that Gateway's staff was immediately willing to assist with her challenges.

Ms. Miller was surprised by the attention.  "I never saw people push you as hard as the staff at Gateway Homeless Services.  Every day they would encourage me to get my housing documents, and staying at the shelter gave me strength and the stability that I needed to move into transitional housing."

Ms. Miller plans to complete her education in Nursing, and start her career so that she can be productive and self-sufficient.
